Discreet Recording

A small watch is less noticeable than a phone on the counter. Patients feel more comfortable.

Your wrist, your scribe

When you're in the middle of a procedure, the last thing you want to do is fumble with your phone. ButterNote's Apple Watch app lets you start and stop recordings with a single tap on your wrist. The recording captures your conversation with the patient while your hands stay exactly where they need to be.

Once you're done, the recording transfers automatically to your iPhone via WatchConnectivity. From there, the workflow is the same — transcribe, generate notes, review, and chart. The Apple Watch simply removes the friction of getting the recording started.

Frequently asked questions

Which Apple Watch models are supported?

ButterNote works with Apple Watch Series 4 and later running watchOS 10 or newer. The app is optimized for the latest Apple Watch models for the best recording quality.

How does the recording transfer to my iPhone?

Recordings transfer automatically from your Apple Watch to your iPhone via WatchConnectivity when your Watch is in range. The transfer happens in the background — just open ButterNote on your iPhone to see the recording ready for transcription.

Is the Apple Watch recording quality good enough for transcription?

Yes. ButterNote records at 16kHz mono WAV quality on Apple Watch, which is optimized for speech recognition. While iPhone recordings have higher fidelity, Watch recordings work well for clinical conversations at typical chairside distances.
